Sanctifica was a Swedish band formed in 1996 by Hubertus Liljegren on guitar and Daniel Thelin on drums. Initially a death metal act, they evolved into black metal after Alexander Orest joined on keyboards and bass. Their first release was the demo tape In the Bleak Midwinter, released as an EP in 1998. In 2000, Sanctifica released their debut album, Spirit of Purity, through Little Rose Productions and Rivel Records, touring extensively across Scandinavia. In 2001, they transitioned to progressive death metal for the conceptual album Negative B (2002). The band disbanded in 2003, with members forming other groups like Crimson Moonlight and As a Reminder.
