Born on October 26, 1971, in Haifa, Israel, Matt Schwartz is a record producer, songwriter, and DJ operating under the stage name The Drill. After moving to London in the early 1990s and studying at Kingston University, the producer worked at Hit-House in Hammersmith, collaborating with Farley “Jackmaster” Funk. From 1996 to 1998, the songwriter worked at BeatFarm Studios, where the artist co-wrote the track “Dissolved Girl” (1998) for Massive Attack. The producer launched Destined Records in 2000, co-founded Blackgold Recordings, and co-founded the duo Deepest Blue in 2002. Deepest Blue released the album Late September (2004), which reached number 22 on the UK Albums Chart. Under the name The Drill, the musician released the single “The Drill” (2005) and the single “Piano Mano” (2008). The songwriter's music appeared in films such as The Matrix and The Jackal. The engineer also co-wrote and produced works for Kylie Minogue, Selah Sue, and Yungblud. These productions include Yungblud's albums Weird! (2020) and Idols (2025), and the single “Changes” (2025), which won a Grammy Award.
