Black Sun Aeon was a Finnish metal project founded in 2008 by Tuomas Saukkonen in Lahti. The project began as an outlet for Saukkonen's compositions that did not fit the style of his main bands, Before the Dawn and The Final Harvest. In 2009, Black Sun Aeon released their debut album Darkness Walks Beside Me, which featured guest vocals from Tomi Koivusaari (Amorphis) and Ville Sorvali (Moonsorrow), among others. Saukkonen handled all instrumental duties in the studio and performed on drums during live shows. The album's dark, melancholic tone received critical acclaim but was challenging to categorize due to its genre-hopping nature. In 2010, Black Sun Aeon released their second album Routa, which Saukkonen divided into two parts: Talviaamu and Talviyö. The band disbanded in 2013.
