Marek Michał Grechuta (10 December 1945 – 9 October 2006) was a Polish singer, songwriter, composer, and pianist born in Zamość. While studying architecture in Kraków, he co-founded the band Anawa with Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz in 1967, marking the beginning of his professional music career. His debut album, Marek Grechuta & Anawa (1970), established him as one of Poland's leading singer-songwriters, while Korowód (1971) became one of the most influential albums in Polish popular music. After leaving Anawa, he formed the group WIEM and released Droga za widnokres (1972) and Magia obłoków (1974). He continued his career with albums including Szalona lokomotywa (1977), Śpiewające obrazy (1981), W malinowym chruśniaku (1984), Wiosna – ach, to ty! (1987), and Niezwykłe miejsca (2003). Throughout his career, Grechuta became known for combining literary poetry with pop, folk, and progressive rock. He died in Kraków on 9 October 2006.
