The Geir Lysne Listening Ensemble is a 20-piece big band led by Geir Lysne, established in Norway in 1999. Notable musicians who contributed to the ensemble also include trombonist Helge Sunde and saxophonist Tore Brunborg. Their album, Aurora Borealis: Suite for Big Band, was released in 2000 and introduced the four-piece suite inspired by the poem "Hornelen" by Jakob Sande. The following year, they performed at the Berlin Jazz Festival, which led to their breakthrough in Germany with the live album Live in Berlin – Aurora Borealis. In 2003, the band released Korall, featuring contributions from Norwegian folk singer Sondre Bratland. In 2006, the band released Boahjenásti – The North Star, which earned them the German Critics Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
