Choralschola der Wiener Hofburgkapelle (Vienna Imperial Court School), a vocal ensemble dedicated to Gregorian chant and liturgical polyphony, was founded in 1952 at the Hofburgkapelle in Vienna. The group's inception was influenced by musicologist Higinio Anglés and supported by Josef Schnitt, who had previously saved the Vienna Boys' Choir from dissolution. Initially led by Josef Julius Böhm, the ensemble consisted of former members of the Vienna Boys' Choir. In 1956, Josef Schabasser took over as director, leading to the release of their first album Gregorian Chants for All Seasons in 1963. The group's repertoire includes notable works such as "Gregorian Chants for All Seasons" and "Gregorian Chant for the Church Year". Choralschola Der Wiener Hofburgkapelle has been recognized for its precise articulation and deep understanding of liturgical context, making it one of Europe’s leading Gregorian chant ensembles.
