The Baseball Project is an American supergroup formed in 2007 by Peter Buck, Mike Mills, Scott McCaughey, Steve Wynn, and Linda Pitmon. The group was conceived during discussions at R.E.M.'s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Their debut album, Volume 1: Frozen Ropes and Dying Quails, was released in July 2008, with their first public appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman the previous month. In March 2011, they released their second album, Volume 2: High and Inside, and Mike Mills took over bass duties from Peter Buck in 2012. Their third album, 3rd, was released in March 2014. The band played a special show at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, and a residency at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in 2019.
