Vera Kappeler is a Swiss jazz pianist born in 1974 in Basel, Switzerland. Kappeler studied classical piano at the Konservatorium Winterthur from 1995 to 1999 and concurrently received jazz training from Hans Feigenwinter and Lester Menezes. Kappeler's early career included collaborations with various artists such as Bettina Klöti, Marianne Racine, Philipp Schaufelberger, Peter Conradin Zumthor, Simon Gerber, Lionel Friedli, Felix Profos, Christoph Irniger, Gilbert Paeffgen, Bänz Oester, Norbert Pfammatter, Corin Curschellas, Peter Herbert, and Wolfgang Mitterer. Kappeler also performed with groups like Makaya Ntshoko's New Tsotsis and the Sextett Grünes Blatt. In 2014, Kappeler released the notable album Babylon Suite (2014). Kappeler won several awards, including the Förderpreis der Stadt Winterthur in 2008, the ZKB Jazzpreis in 2008, and the SUISA-Stiftung für Musik Jazzpreis in 2011. Kappeler took on a role teaching piano at the Jazzabteilung of the Hochschule Luzern. Other notable album releases include Live at bird's eye jazz club Volume 6 (2004) and Nach Slingia (2008).
