The Ruins of Beverast is a German extreme metal project from Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, formed in 2003 by Alexander von Meilenwald. Initially influenced by black metal, von Meilenwald began composing his own songs after the dissolution of Nagelfar, where he played drums. In 2004, The Ruins of Beverast released their debut album Unlock the Shrine (2004), which was followed by Rain Upon the Impure (2006). The band's sound incorporated doom metal and ambient elements, as heard on subsequent albums like Foulest Semen of a Sheltered Elite (2009) and Blood Vaults – The Blazing Gospel of Heinrich Kramer (2013). Notable collaborations include the splits Urfaust / The Ruins of Beverast (2007) with Urfaust and the four-way split Gott in uns (2007). The Ruins of Beverast's lyrics often draw from biblical symbolism and themes of misanthropy.
