Civilization One was a German heavy metal band that formed in 2006. The ensemble was founded by the Sri Lankan vocalist Chithral Somapala alongside the guitarist Aldo Lonobile, the bassist Pierre-Emmanuel Pelisson, and the drummer Luca Cartasegna. They achieved early professional attention in 2007 after performing at the PogPower UK Pre-Party. The group is famous for being the first Western-style heavy metal act to perform in Sri Lanka, appearing as a headliner at the TNL Onstage Finals in 2008 and 2009. Their debut studio album, Revolution Rising (2007), was recorded in studios across France, Italy, and Germany. Following significant lineup changes that incorporated the musicians Christian Muenzer, Boern Daigger, and Michael Stein, the ensemble recorded its second studio album, Calling the Gods (2012).
