Kuolemanlaakso, a Finnish death-doom metal band from Kuopio and Helsinki, was founded in 2010 as a solo project by guitarist Markus Laakso. The band's name translates to "Death Valley." Initially, Laakso recorded a demo with four tracks, which garnered positive feedback and led him to expand the project into a full band. Mikko Kotamäki (Swallow the Sun, Barren Earth) joined as vocalist, Savon “Kouta” Surma on guitar, Tuomo “Usva” Räisänen on bass, and Toni “Tiera” Ronkainen (Discard) on drums.
Kuolemanlaakso released their debut album Uljas uusi maailma in 2012, which reached position number forty-two in the Finnish album charts. The band's subsequent releases include the EP Musta aurinko nousee in November 2013 and the album Tulijoutsen in February 2014. They have performed at various concerts across Finland and appeared at the Tuska Open Air Metal Festival in 2013. The band's fifth studio album, Kuusumu, was released on March 4, 2022.
