Lay Down Rotten, a death metal band from Herborn, Germany, was formed in 1999 as a solo project by Daniel Jakobi. The group officially began with the addition of Timo Claas, Johannes Pitz, and Daniel Benner in 2000. Their early releases included two demos, Colder as Cold (2000) and Way of Weakness (2001). Lay Down Rotten's debut album, Paralyzed by Fear, was released in 2003 under Remission Records, followed by a spring 2004 tour with Meatknife and Gorezone. The band continued to release albums, including Cold Constructed (2005) and Breeding Insanity (2006), after which they signed with Metal Blade Records. Notable releases under this label include Reconquering the Pit (2007) and Gospel of the Wretched (2009). Their final album, Deathspell Catharsis, was released in 2014. Lay Down Rotten announced their disbandment in February 2015, citing differences among members.
