The Sandsacks, a folk rock, Irish folk, and medieval music group from Berlin, Germany, was formed in 2002. Initially starting as a medieval minstrel trio, the band evolved into a quartet with the addition of Daniel Neumann, shifting their focus to Irish folk. Their debut album, Folk Show, was released in 2007, followed by Rebels and Rovers in 2009. The Sandsacks gained recognition for their diverse live performances, which included medieval music on instruments like bagpipes and shawms, as well as Irish folk with violin, guitar, bass, and whistles. In 2012, the band released Far Away, marking a transition to a rockier sound with the addition of electric guitar and drums, performed by new members Matthias Schmidt and Mathias Busch. The Sandsacks have toured extensively across Europe, including performances in Germany, Switzerland, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Finland, Russia, and Vietnam. In 2014, they also became regular performers at the Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum.
