John Denver Hore, known as John Grenell and born 19 July 1944 in Ranfurly, New Zealand, was a country singer-songwriter who began performing after finishing high school in 1962, when he placed third in the nationwide TV contest Have a Shot. His breakthrough came with the 1963 debut album Introducing John Hore on Joe Brown, followed by a string of releases such as Encore (1965), Country Gentleman (1966), and My Kind of Songs (1967). Hore toured internationally, representing New Zealand at the Grand Ole Opry in 1966 and 1974. He earned several country‑music awards, including Male Vocalist of the Year and a Scroll of Honour from the Variety Artists Club in 1990. He passed away on 27 July 2022.
