The Spongetones, a power pop band from Charlotte, North Carolina, formed in 1978. Their early releases included Beat Music (1982) and Oh Yeah! (1991). Throughout their career, they released multiple albums such as Textural Drone Thing (1995), Number 9 (2005), and Too Clever By Half (2008). The band's album Beat & Torn received critical acclaim. In 2023, the Spongetones signed with Big Stir Records, publishing a live album from their 40th anniversary show along with new material.
