Woodpecker Wooliams was the musical moniker of Brighton musician Gemma Williams. After training as a midwife, a sudden illness prompted her to focus on music, leading to the 2009 EP Fledgling and the debut album Diving Down (2009) on Autumn Ferment. In 2012, she released The Bird School of Being Human through Robot Elephant Records. The project gained airplay on BBC Radio 3, 1 and 6, and Woodpecker Wooliams toured Germany, Denmark, Italy, Russia and the Baltics. In 2013, she performed at the Meltdown festival, then announced the project’s end.
