Apollo's Fire, a period-instrument ensemble specializing in early music, was founded in 1992 by American conductor and harpsichordist Jeannette Sorrell. The group made its debut in June 1992 with support from the Cleveland Foundation and began touring soon after. In 2004, Sorrell expanded Apollo's Fire to include a multicultural/folk wing specializing in traditional music performed on period instruments. The ensemble received major grants through the NEA American Masterpieces initiative for their crossover program Come to the River: An Early American Gathering, which became a top-10 bestseller on Billboard Classical in 2011. Apollo's Fire, along with Jeannette Sorrell and tenor Karim Sulayman, won a Grammy Award in 2019 for Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.
