Darkwoods My Betrothed, a Finnish black metal band from Kitee, was formed in 1993. Initially known as Virgin's Cunt, the group recorded the demo Dark Aureoles Gathering in 1994. Their debut full-length album, Heirs of the Northstar, was released by Hammerheart Productions in 1995. The band's sound moved from extreme black metal to a more melodic viking metal style with clean vocals mixed with traditional screams. Subsequent albums included Autumn Roars Thunder (1996) and Witch-Hunts (1998), which returned to a faster, black metal-oriented sound. The band disbanded in 2001 but reunited in 2020, releasing the album Angel of Carnage Unleashed in 2021. This album received widespread coverage and fair to excellent reviews upon release.
