Devil in a Woodpile, a Chicago-based musical group, is known for their blend of country blues and jug band music. The band's origins trace back to the early 1990s when Rick Sherry and Tom V. Ray played together as part of the Jake LaBotz Trio. After backing David "Honeyboy" Edwards, they began performing under the name Devil in a Woodpile. Their breakthrough came with frequent gigs at The Hideout in Chicago, leading to their first album release, Devil in a Woodpile, in 1998 on Bloodshot Records. In 2005, they released In Your Lonesome Town, which featured covers like "Shake It and Break It" by Charlie Patton and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" by Led Zeppelin. The band toured with Son Volt and opened for Ramblin' Jack Elliott in Cleveland. After disbanding in 2009, Rick Sherry formed the Sanctified Grumblers.
