Across the Sun is an American progressive metal and metalcore band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2004. The group's lineup has included vocalist Brandon Davis, guitarist Sam Hafer, keyboardist Shane “The Brain” Murray, drummer Alan Ashcraft, and bassist John Malloy. The group gained initial recognition through various tours and released three EPs: This War (2006), Storms Weathered (2008), and Pestilence & Rapture (2009). In 2010, the band performed numerous dates across the United States, including the Loch Ness Monstour and appearances at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and the Transmission Fest. During the same year, the quintet signed with Metal Blade Records. The ensemble released its debut studio album, Before the Night Takes Us, on 2011. The album was produced by Daniel Castleman at Lambesis Studios and represented seven years of the band's development and touring. Following the release and a subsequent North American tour with acts such as Vanna and Our Last Night, Across the Sun became inactive in 2011.
