Amebix, a British punk band formed in 1978 in Devon, United Kingdom, initially performed locally under the name The Band with No Name. Their breakthrough came with "University Challenged" on Crass Records' Bullshit Detector in 1980. Early releases included the EPs Who's the Enemy (1982) and No Sanctuary (1983). Amebix signed with Alternative Tentacles for their debut album Arise! in 1985, marking a transition to their definitive crust punk sound. The band released several albums, including the album Monolith (1987). Amebix disbanded in 1987 but reunited from 2008 to 2012. Notable releases include the EP Redux (2010) and the album Sonic Mass (2011).
