Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, founded in 1986 in Vienna, Austria by Claudio Abbado, is a youth symphony orchestra. In 1992, the ensemble was opened to musicians up to the age of 26 from all over Europe. Over the years, the GMJO performed with conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Pierre Boulez, and Bernard Haitink, and has toured internationally, including appearances at the Lucerne Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms. They were notably appointed UNICEF Austria Ambassador for its 25th anniversary.
