Chuck Negron, born Charles Negron on June 8 1942 in New York City, was an American singer‑songwriter best known as the founding lead vocalist of the rock group Three Dog Night. After early singing in Bronx doo‑wop ensembles and a brief college basketball stint, Chuck Negron joined Danny Hutton and Cory Wells in 1967 to form Three Dog Night, which achieved worldwide success with hits such as "One", "Joy to the World", and "An Old Fashioned Love Song", selling roughly sixty million records. Following the band’s 1976 disbandment, Chuck Negron released solo albums including Am I Still in Your Heart? (1995), Joy to the World (1996), The Long Road Back (1999), and Live in Concert (2001), and authored the memoir Three Dog Nightmare. Chuck Negron died of heart failure and COPD on February 2, 2026 in Studio City, California, at the age of 83.
