Lautten Compagney is a German instrumental ensemble based in Berlin, founded in 1984 by lutenists Hans-Werner Apel and Wolfgang Katschner. Specializing in early and Baroque music, notably the operas of George Frideric Handel, the group emerged from a lute duo into a variable formation spanning from chamber ensembles to baroque opera orchestras. Its discography includes Timeless (2009), with music by Tarquinio Merula and Philip Glass, Handel with Care (2012), Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern (2013), and War & Peace 1618:1918 (2018). The group also recorded cantatas by Dieterich Buxtehude (2007) and performed Bach’s Köthener Trauermusik in 2010. The ensemble received an ECHO Klassik award in 2010, the Rheingau Musik Preis in 2012, and the Opus Klassik award for Ensemble of the Year in 2019 and 2025.
