Josef Špaček, born on October 17, 1986 in Třebíč, Czechoslovakia, is a Czech violinist. He began playing the violin at age six and studied at institutions including the Curtis Institute of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Prague Conservatory. Špaček's professional career took off when he finished his master's degree at the Juilliard School in 2011 and was appointed concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic. He held this position until 2020, focusing exclusively on his solo career thereafter. In 2015, Supraphon released his album Violin Concertos, featuring works by Antonín Dvořák, Josef Suk, and Leoš Janáček. He won awards in several competitions, including third place in the Carl Nielsen International Music Competition in 2008 and first place in the Michael Hill International Violin Competition in 2009. In 2012, he was a finalist at the Queen Elisabeth World Violin Competition in Brussels.
