Sound Barrier, an all‑black heavy‑metal quartet from Los Angeles, was formed in 1980 and included vocalist Bernie Kimbell, guitarist Tracey “Spacey T.” Singleton, bassist Stanley Davis, and drummer Dave “Skavido” Brown. Their debut album, Total Control, was released by MCA in 1983, followed by the EP Born to Rock in 1984, which included a cover of "Born to Be Wild". The group then signed with Metal Blade and issued Speed of Light (1986), featuring a rendition of "Hollywood (Down on Your Luck)". After bassist Stanley Davis departed and was replaced by Emil Lechințeanu, the band disbanded in 1987. Subsequent projects saw members join acts such as Masi, Mother’s Finest, and Fishbone. They reunited in 2017 at Whisky a Go Go and introduced the single "I’m Just a Man" (2017).
