40 Grit, an American groove metal band from Concord, California, was formed in 1996 by guitarist‑vocalist James Santiago, guitarist Chris Anderson, bassist Kevin Young, and drummer Mike Bennet. The band first attracted attention in 1998 as a support act for Stormtroopers of Death, after which Santiago and Young contributed backing vocals to the 1999 Bigger Than the Devil album. After touring with Skinlab and Crowbar, 40 Grit released their debut studio album, Heads, on Metal Blade Records in 2000. After a lineup change in 2001, the group released Nothing to Remember in 2003, toured with several metal acts like Ankla, Pissing Razors, and Luxt, and disbanded in February 2004.
