As You Drown, a Swedish death metal band originating from Borås, was formed in 2003 under the initial name Ethereal, with Mikael Åkerström on guitar and vocals, Simon Exner on guitar, Martin Latvala on drums, and Alexander Persson on bass. Between 2003 and 2005, they released several demos and supported acts like Entombed and Vader before undergoing their first lineup change. In 2008, the group renamed themselves As You Drown and signed with Metal Blade Records. Their debut album, Reflection, was released in 2009, and well-received by critics. The band toured Europe with Vader in spring 2010. In 2011, they released their second album, Rat King. The band became inactive that same year.
