Valkyrja, a Swedish black metal band formed in Stockholm in 2004, initially released their debut demo Funeral Voices in the same year. The band, consisting of Simon Wizén, A. L., Jocke Wallgren, and Vlad Lefay, re-released this demo as Far Beyond on cassette through Deathkrush Productions. Their first full-length album, The Invocation of Demise, was recorded at Necromorbus Studio in 2007 and released by Northern Silence Productions. The band's second album, Contamination, followed in 2010 via Metal Blade Records. Valkyrja continued their prolific output with The Antagonist's Fire in 2013, produced by Tore Stjerna and released through World Terror Committee. This album received critical acclaim, with Metal Temple giving it a 9/10 rating.
