100 Monkeys was an independent funk rock band from Los Angeles, California, active from 2008 to 2012. The group consisted of Ben Graupner, Jackson Rathbone, Jerad Anderson, Ben Johnson, and Lawrence Abrams. Their name referenced the “hundredth monkey effect.” The band’s early releases included the improvised album Monster De Lux and Creative Control Sessions, followed by their first studio album, Grape, in 2009. They gained a wider audience through extensive touring, including a 100-city U.S. tour in 2010. Their blues-influenced sound combined funk rock with a 1960s-inspired aesthetic. After signing with Warrior Records, they released Liquid Zoo in 2011. Following lineup changes and a dispute over the band name, Johnson and Coonrod were left as the last members of the first lineup.
