David L. Davis, born February 16, 1961, in Cullman, Alabama, was an American mandolinist and singer in the bluegrass tradition. Raised in a musical family, he was the grandson of banjo and fiddle player J.H. Bailey, and his uncle Cleo Davis performed in the first incarnation of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys. In 1984, following the health decline of Garry Thurmond, he assumed leadership of the bluegrass band the Warrior River Boys. Under his leadership, the group released several albums, including The Voice in the Night (1986), New Beginnings (1990), and Sounds Like Home (1993) on Rounder Records. He later released Didn't He Ramble: Songs of Charlie Poole (2018) on Rounder. In 2010, he was inducted into the Alabama Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, followed by America's Old-Time Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014. He died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on September 15, 2024, in Snead, Alabama.
