Takehisa Kosugi, born 小杉 武久 on March 14, 1938 in Tokyo, was a Japanese composer and violinist. Early influences included his father's harmonica playing and recordings of Mischa Elman and Joseph Szigeti. In 1962, he graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts with a degree in musicology. Kosugi began his career as part of the experimental group Group Ongaku, which explored unconventional sounds using everyday objects. He later collaborated with Fluxus artists such as Nam June Paik and Charlotte Moorman, moving to New York City in 1965. He moved back to Japan in 1967. Notable works include "Theatre Music" and "Anima 1". In 1969, Kosugi formed the Taj Mahal Travellers, an improvisational group that traveled extensively. He returned to the United States in 1977 to work with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. He passed away on October 12, 2018.
