Dead Man’s Bones—the musical partnership of Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields—return with the track “Lost In The Night,” their first new music since the release of their critically praised self-titled first album in 2009 on ANTI- Records.
After trying several Los Angeles studios without finding the sound they wanted, the duo took two guitars, two drum machines, and two synthesizers to a farm outside the city and recorded the song in a day. The result is a shadowy but undeniably hopeful homemade anthem that hints at an exciting new direction for the duo.
Dead Man’s Bones, the musical collaboration between Ryan Gosling and Zach Shields (Writer/Producer: Gladys upcoming Weapons prequel, Godzilla: King of Monsters/vs Kong, Wrote/Directed the play Dad’s Leg), carved out a singular place in indie music with their haunting, imaginative blend of gothic folk, vintage rock and roll, doo-wop, and theatrical storytelling. Recorded with the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, their self-titled 2009 debut created a sound that was at once eerie, playful, nostalgic, and deeply heartfelt, evoking the atmosphere of old horror films, forgotten Halloween records, and ghostly American folklore.
The album earned critical acclaim from influential music publications including Pitchfork and The FADER, who recognized the originality and sincerity of the band’s vision. It also ranked No. 43 on MOJO’s Top 50 Albums of 2009 and was included in AllMusic’s Favorite Rock Albums of 2009. More than fifteen years after its release, the music continues to find new audiences through its use in film and television, its enduring online presence, and a devoted following that has grown well beyond the album’s initial release. With a sound that remains difficult to categorize or replicate, Dead Man’s Bones has established a cult status and lasting cultural legacy through a single, remarkably distinctive record.
