Arnaldo Baptista carries an entire studio within his biography. A multi-instrumentalist, composer, writer, and visual artist, he was the central driving force of the Mutantes from 1968-1973. The band revolutionized Brazilian youth music. They mixed psychedelia and sonic invention without asking anyone's permission.
In 1973, Arnaldo chose his own rail. He nailed "Lóki?", an album still revered today. His solo flight continued with other groundbreaking albums. From 1982 onwards, this creative power migrated from the grooves of vinyl to the vigor of the canvas. Arnaldo transformed harmonies into brushstrokes, creating thousands of visual works. In the 1970s, he wrote 3 fictional works, released in "Complete Fictions".
Arnaldo's visual art reflects his philosophy, poetry, sense of humor, and avant-garde creativity, already known from his musical career. The expressiveness through the use of colors and textures permeates the universe of psychedelia, metaphysics, and contemporary art. "Painting is the expression of what my soul says about the sun, about the clouds... I built this new path of creation by seeing my soul in a way that connects music to the visual arts," observes Arnaldo.
Between paint as music through presences such as his return to the stage on solo piano (2011-2018), Arnaldo keeps his pulse. He creates with the appetite of someone who discovers fire every morning.
