Attilio Zanchi, born in 1953 in Milan, Italy, is a jazz musician and bassist who studied at the Conservatorio di Milano under Giorgio Gaslini. In 1979, he joined the Open Form Trio and advanced his career through studies at the University of Fine Arts in Banff and the Creative Music Studio in Woodstock under Dave Holland. He performed with notable figures such as Karl Berger, George Lewis, Sam Rivers, Jimmy Giuffre, Ed Blackwell, Lee Konitz, Kenny Wheeler, Jack DeJohnette, and John Abercrombie. Upon returning to Italy, he joined the Milan Jazz Quartet and collaborated with Franco D’Andrea and Paolo Fresu. He released six albums under his own name, including Earley Spring (1987) and Four Ways (1997), and has appeared on over 80 albums as a sideman. He has also authored instructional books on jazz and double bass playing and taught at various conservatories in Italy.
