Henry Brown, known professionally as Pucho, was born on November 1, 1938, in Harlem, New York City. He began playing timbales at age 15 and gained early professional experience with Los Lobos Diablos and Joe Panama. In 1959, he formed the Latin jazz group Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers. After signing with Prestige Records in 1966, they released seven albums that were influential in the boogaloo genre, including Heat! (1968) and Yaina (1971). In 1973, Pucho disbanded the group to focus on traditional Latin music. His work gained renewed interest in the 1990s from the British Acid Jazz scene, leading to a reformation of the Latin Soul Brothers and albums like Caliente Con Soul! (1999). In 2003, Pucho was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame. He passed away on September 21, 2022.
