Wolfgang Johannes Hofer, known professionally as Wolfgang, was born on February 17, 1950, in Linz, Austria. He began his musical journey as a teenager, composing and writing lyrics while attending high school. During his studies in telecommunications engineering at the University of Vienna, he formed a folk music quartet. Wolfgang's breakthrough came in 1970 with his debut single "Ein Foto von Christina", which was discovered by ORF employee Evamaria Kaiser. He then released "Abraham (Das Lied Vom Trödler)" in 1970, which became a significant hit, topping the Austrian charts for four weeks and reaching Number 1 twice on ZDF-Hitparade. This success led to his first album Aus Abrahams Bude (1971), featuring notable tracks like "Ich bin John (von Johnston)" and "Corrina, Corrina". Despite this early triumph, Wolfgang's career as a singer waned by the end of the 1970s. Throughout his career, Wolfgang collaborated extensively with other artists. He wrote lyrics for Udo Jürgens, including hits like "Mein Klavier" (1972) and "Mit 66 Jahren" (1977). Additionally, he contributed to songs performed by Margot Werner and Wencke Myhre
