Martin Green is a British musician, composer and playwright from Sheffield, Yorkshire, best known as the accordionist of the folk trio Lau, which he formed with Aidan O’Rourke and Kris Drever in 2005. Lau won the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards’ Best Group prize four times. Green has also developed an acclaimed career as a composer, beginning with the environmental theatre production Albatross in 2003. His commissions include the theatrical song cycle Crows’ Bones for Opera North and Seiche, written for the Kronos Quartet. In 2014, he received a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award for Artists. His later work includes Flit, created with animators Will Anderson and Ainslie Henderson. Green has also worked as a session musician for Linda Thompson and Eliza Carthy.
