Harrison Kennedy was born on March 9, 1942, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in a family with roots in New Orleans and Tennessee. He began singing in the Stewart Memorial Church Choir as a child before achieving his breakthrough in 1970 as a member of Chairmen of the Board. During his time with the group, he appeared on the recording of Marvin Gaye's"What's Going On" and sang on hit singles such as "Give Me Just a Little More Time" and "Everything's Tuesday". After leaving the group in 1974, he pursued a solo career, releasing Sweet Taste in 2003 and signing with Electro‑Fi Records in 2007. His 2014 release This Is From Here earned the 2016 Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year.
