Kellee Patterson is an American soul, jazz, disco, and R&B singer who gained national recognition by becoming the first Black woman to win the Miss Indiana pageant. She made her recording debut with the critically acclaimed jazz-soul album Maiden Voyage (1973), released on Black Jazz Records, followed by Kellee (1976), which included covers of “I’m Gonna Love You Just a Little More, Baby” by Barry White and “Mister Magic” by Grover Washington Jr. Her real breakthrough came with Turn on the Lights – “Be Happy” (1977), which spawned the single “If It Don’t Fit, Don’t Force It” (which reached the Top 10 on the U.S. R&B charts) as well as the track “Turn On the Lights (Phase I)”, a club favorite. She released her final studio album, All the Things You Are, in 1979.
