François Glorieux, born on 1932, was a Belgian pianist, composer, and conductor from Kortrijk. He was recognized for his work in classical music, jazz, and improvisation, drawing inspiration from Debussy, Ravel, and Latin-American rhythms. Over his career, Glorieux gave nearly 6,000 recitals across 60 countries, including tours with the conductor André Cluytens. He collaborated with the Ballet of the 20th Century and the choreographers Maurice Béjart and André Leclair. His discography features 175 recordings, including the album François Glorieux Plays the Beatles. He was commissioned by Michael Jackson to create symphonic arrangements. Glorieux founded four instrumental ensembles and, in 1990, became the permanent conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra in London and the Mainzer Kammerorchester. His honors include the Harriet Cohen International Music Award (1967) and the Give Soul to Europe award (2012). Glorieux died on 22 September 2023.
