Nicholas Lens is a Belgian composer of contemporary music and an author born as Nicholas Lens Noorenbergh in 1957 in Ypres. He reached wider visibility with the trilogy The Accacha Chronicles which included the studio recording "Flamma Flamma – The Fire Requiem" (1994) and "Terra Terra – The Aquarius Era" (1999). Lens signed with the label Deutsche Grammophon in 2020. His stage career included the world premiere of the opera Slow Man (2012) which featured a libretto by J. M. Coetzee and the opera Shell Shock (2014) with a libretto by Nick Cave. He collaborated with Cave on the studio recording L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S (2021) which reached number 52 in Flanders. His discography included the chamber opera Is this the gate? (2024) and the opera Elizabeth Costello at the gate scheduled for a premiere in 2028.
