アナログフィッシュ was formed in 1999 by vocalist‑guitarist Akira Shimooka and bassist‑vocalist Kentarō Sasaki, who had been friends since school; they released a demo tape that year. In 2002, drummer Shūichirō Saitō joined, completing the trio. Their debut album Sekai wa Maboroshi was issued on 25 June 2003, followed by the EP Nichiyōbi no Yoru Mitai da on 3 December 2003. In 2004 the band released the self‑titled Analogfish on 23 June and the major label debut Hello Hello Hello on 23 September, after performing at Fuji Rock Festival that summer. The single "Speed" (3 August 2005) became the 10th ending theme for the anime Naruto, bringing the group international attention. Subsequent releases included BGM? (23 February 2005), Kiss (21 September 2005), Rock Is Harmony (22 November 2006), and Still Life (25 July 2018). The band toured nationally each year, appearing at the Rock in Japan Festival and Nano‑Mugen Festival in 2008. In 2008 drummer Shūichirō Saitō withdrew for medical reasons but returned in 2009. The group continued to release singles such as "Magic" (1 November 2006) and "Living in the City" (10 May 2006) and maintained a steady presence in the Japanese rock scene.
