Kamel Houari, known professionally as K-Mel, born on 22 September 1972 in Gouvieux, France, is a French-Algerian rapper and singer. He grew up in Creil where he gave his first concert at 18, influenced by Arabic music, funk, and the urban sounds of the Parisian suburbs. In the early 1990s, he co‑founded the rap group Alliance Ethnik with Médard and Gusty, and the ensemble was discovered by Delabel, signing the platinum‑certified album Simple et funky in 1992 and later releasing Fat Come Back in 1999 before disbanding. K-Mel’s solo breakthrough came in 2000, when he recorded the single "Petite Marie" featuring Jmi Sissoko, a cover of Francis Cabrel, and in 2001, he released his album Reflexions, heavily influenced by G‑funk and featuring guests Warren G and Nate Dogg; the same year his track "Louled" appeared on the soundtrack of the film Les Deux Papas et la Maman.
