Goûts de Luxe, a French new wave and synthpop group originating from Brest, Brittany, was formed in 1986 by Jacques Le Honsec and Jean-Éric Monfort. The duo's name was conceived during a Chanel fashion show. Leveraging Le Honsec's connections within the music industry, Goûts de Luxe signed a coproduction deal with Carla Music, managed by Dominique Dubois. Their debut single "Les Yeux de Laura" was released in 1986 and peaked at number 24 on the French charts. Despite initial success, internal issues led to Monfort's departure after the recording session. Marianna Kliska joined as a replacement on synthesizers. The group's second single, "Omaha Beach", featuring the B-side "Ubik" inspired by Philip K. Dick’s novel and a cover of Visage's "Fade to Grey", was released in 1987. In 1989, Goûts de Luxe signed with EMI and released their final single "Dans un autre pays", which failed to achieve the desired success, leading to the group's disbandment. Despite their relatively short career, Goûts de Luxe left a notable mark on the French music scene of the 1980s, with "Les Yeux de Laura" selling over 270,000 copies and being remixed by Dimitri from Paris.
