Cephalotripsy is an American slam death metal band from San Diego, California, formed in 2003. The group’s breakthrough was the three-song demo Demo 2006 (2006), which highlighted their slow, slam-focused riffs. In 2007, they issued their debut studio album, Uterovaginal Insertion of Extirpated Anomalies (2007), through Amputated Vein Records. The record received mixed reviews, polarizing listeners due to its almost exclusive focus on slam riffs. They followed with Promo 2011 (2011), which abandoned their previous style, and appeared on Membro Cephalic Symbiosis (2012), a split release with the Russian band Membro Genitali Befurcator. After a period of inactivity, the band returned in 2017 to perform at the Las Vegas Death Fest, which was followed by a United States tour alongside Splattered and Incinerate. On July 13, 2024, they released their second studio album, Epigenetic Neurogenesis, ending a 17-year album gap.
