Crystal Smith, known professionally as Dimples D., is an American rapper. Her debut single, “Sucker D.J.'s (I Will Survive)”, was released in 1983 on Party Time Records. Produced by Marley Marl, the track served as an answer song to Run-D.M.C.'s “Sucker M.C.'s (Krush-Groove 1)” and was one of the earliest hip-hop releases to feature a female MC. Although it did not initially achieve commercial success, the song was remixed in 1990 by Dutch DJ Ben Liebrand. This reworked version, titled “Sucker DJ (A Witch for Love)”, incorporated samples from Hugo Montenegro's theme music for the 1960s television sitcom I Dream of Jeannie. The remix became a major international success, reaching Number 1 in Australia (earning a gold certification for sales of over 35,000 copies), number 2 in New Zealand, number 10 in Austria, number 16 in Germany, and number 17 on the UK Singles Chart, establishing her as a one-hit wonder. Her debut studio album, Dimples & Spice, was released in 1991 on the Strictly Dance label. Subsequent singles from the album include “I Can't Wait” (1991) and “Sisters Keep on Doin' It” (1991), both of which were collaborations with Lady Spice.
