Deconstruction was an American alternative rock band formed in 1993 in Los Angeles, California, by bassist and vocalist Eric Avery, guitarist Dave Navarro, and drummer Michael Murphy. The group emerged after the 1991 breakup of Jane's Addiction as a one-time project. The founders had initially invited Jane's Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins to join, but Perkins chose to join Porno for Pyros instead, leading to the recruitment of Murphy. Deconstruction released the single "L.A. Song" (1994), followed by their self-titled sole studio album, Deconstruction (1994), through American Recordings. The album featured experimental compositions and a promotional video for the track "L.A. Song", but received mixed reviews and limited commercial success. The band never toured and disbanded shortly after the album's release. Avery later formed Polar Bear, while Navarro joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
