Azaghal is a Finnish black metal band formed in 1995 by guitarist Narqath and drummer Kalma. Varjoherra joined as vocalist in 1997, and their first demo was recorded that year. They released the debut EP Harmagedon (1999) through Aftermath Music and the first full-length album, Mustamaa (1999), via Melancholy Productions. Their second album, Helvetin Yhdeksän Piiriä (1999), followed later that year. In 2001, JL Nokturnal joined as a lead guitarist and bassist, and they recorded the third full-length album, Of Beasts and Vultures (2002). They later released albums including Valo pohjoisesta (2018) and Alttarimme on luista tehty (2023), and engaged in sporadic live performances.
