Terje Tønnesen, born on February 27, 1955 in Oslo, Norway, is a Norwegian classical violinist who made his debut in 1972 at age 17. Following five years of study in Switzerland, Tønnesen began his career as artistic director of Det Norske Kammerorkester and first concertmaster of the Oslo Filharmoniske Orkester in 1977. He has collaborated with notable musicians such as Mstislav Rostropovich, Maurice André, and James Galway, and has toured extensively across Europe, USA, China, and the Soviet Union. Tønnesen's discography included releases such as Edvard Grieg: The Complete Music for String Orchestra (1980) and Terje Rypdal: Undisonus (1987). He has received several awards, including the Grieg Award in 1979 and the Spellemannprisen in 2000.
